Uppingham Choral Society was re-founded in 1959 by Jim Peshek.

Little is known about the original Society which dates back to 1887. Their first performance was of Handel’s Messiah in the Parish Church in March 1960.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Methodist Church, Orange Street, Uppingham LE15 9SQ.

In recent years they have performed three concerts during the season, which lasts from September through to April.

These include a November concert, and a Christmas concert which has audience participation. A major choral work is performed in the Spring. In 2017 the choir combined with Oundle and District Choral Society to perform Handel’s ‘Israel in Egypt’ accompanied by the Leicester based Bardi Orchestra.

The choir is open to all, no audition is required although the ability to read music is an advantage.

The Musical Director and Conductor of the choir is Peter Clements, Director of Academic Music and Organist at Uppingham School. He has been with the Society since 2001.
